Wednesday 25th January 2012 9am to 5pm
One day landscape painting course in watercolours with Michael Cruickshank. £125 includes home made lunch with wine and all refreshments. Michael will cover the fundamentals of using watercolours. A series of demonstrations and exercises will cover picture construction, painting skies, creating depth and distance using tone and colour and the subtleties of painting foliage and reflections. It is designed to inspire all levels of painting ability from total beginners to those who have painted for years. Maximum of 5 people ensures individual attention.

Thursday 26th January / Thursday 2nd Februray 2012 9am to 5pm.
One day follow up painting course with Michael Cruickshank. £125 includes home made lunch with wine and all refreshments. Designed for those who wish to consolidate and expand on techniques they learnt on their initial one day watercolour course.

Thursday 23rd February 2012 10am to 4pm
Growing Cut Flowers for the house with Jasmine Hart.
£45 includes home made lunch with wine and all refreshments.
Jasmine Hart is an experienced and inspiring horticultural lecturer who has run many day and residential courses at West Dean College. She will show us how to sow seeds, grow on, choose varieties that like to be picked and how to plan and where to site your Cutting Garden for beautiful, fresh and continuous cut flowers for the house right through from spring to autumn. You can be up and running this year. Maximum of 10 people. The day includes some seeds to take home and lots of helpful hints and tips.

Bluebell woods painting day with Michael Cruickshank. £125. The day includes home made lunch with wine, brought to you as a special woodland picnic and all refreshments. To take place in the bluebell woods close to Bradness Gallery. Paint in the medium of your choice. All standards welcome. Maximum of 5 people.

Sunday 13th May 7.30am to 3pm
Pond Day with ‘Pete the Pond’ £45. Pete is the Alan Titchmarsh pond doctor, a qualified limnologist, and works with Sussex Wildlife Trust, BTCV and Pond Conservation. He is a licensed great crested newt, otter, reptile and dragonfly surveyor. Pond Conservation’s million ponds initiative aims to reverse a century of pond loss and declining pond wildlife. Garden ponds are fabulous fun to have and Pete will teach us interesting ways to encourage wildlife, how to recognise species, beneficial plants and pond maintenance. The day starts with a delicious home made breakfast and fresh coffee by the Bradness Gallery ponds when the dragonflies, damselflies and frogs are at their liveliest in the height of the mating season! The day includes a simple home made picnic lunch.

Sunday 20th May. 8am to 11am when frogs and dragonflies are at their most active.

Children's Pond Day in conjunction with Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust.  Advance booking necessary but no charge.  Juice and simple breakfast included.  There will be a pond expert, nets to catch mini beasts and microscope to enhance and identify and finds.

Thursday 14th June 2012 10am to 5pm
Creating Flowers in fabric with Anne Tomlin. £75
A very special opportunity to spend the day with Anne Tomlin and learn millinery and sewing techniques such as flower making, hand colouring, rolling, stiffening and wiring straw and woven sinamy. Anne co founded design company Bailey Tomlin in 1989 and sold her creations in prestigious stores around the world such as Harrods, Liberty, Selfridges, Saks 5th Ave and Mitsukoshi in Japan. Anne is talented and gentle and keen to share her skills. Maximum of 6 people. All lovely materials are included but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish.

Jazz evening Bring your own picnic, wine, blankets or chairs and table and enjoy an evening with your friends listening to live music.  Fabulous jazz band playing mainstream swing jazz, standards, some Bepop and some Blues.  Free parking. Limited numbers – advance tickets only

Saturday 30th June 10am to 4pm
All about growing veg with Nigel Philips £45 A day to teach you how to create raised vegetable beds and fill them with delicious produce to eat. Nigel is principle lecturer at Plumpton College, has been a garden designer for 30 years and has won a gold medal and silver gilt at Chelsea. You are guaranteed a fun and inspiring day. All refreshments, a home made lunch with wine are included.

Garden open for Family Support Work charity.
Mon 9th - Thurs 12th July / Mon 20th – Thurs 23rd August
3 day painting course with Michael Cruickshank.
Designed for you to work in the medium of your choice. Create a landscape painting within a small group. Depending on the weather, tuition will take place on location on the South Downs or by the River Ouse or in the studio. Learn how to select a view, construct a picture, create a sense of depth using tone and colour, paint skies, foliage and reflections in water. £375 for tuition and daily home cooked lunch with wine and all refreshments. £495 residential.

Grasses day with Jasmine Hart £45
Jasmine will cover the main groups of grasses and their uses. Cultivation. Propagation. Companion planting and making a plan using grasses. See February 23rd for details.

These events make wonderful presents and Gift vouchers are available for all of them. Numbers are small, in some cases very small and so places are limited. Michael’s courses run throughout the year. Please enquire for dates.

The garden is available for private group visits of 10 or more with home made tea and cakes.
